Matta comprises of 2 DJ / Producers, Andy Brookes & James Wilson. Meeting at Music College on a Production Degree course they found similarities in music taste, which led them to decide to collaborate.

Andy’s background in music is already impressive, working in many genres and remixing under various different pseudonyms for some of the biggest names in music. He is also co owner of breaks record label Control Breaks that has helped to discover and nurture some very distinguished names in the world of breaks. James has been a DJ for over 10 years and worked within the industry for the last 3 years. Their combined experience has helped them quickly establish their own sound and cultivate their name in the world of dubstep in a relatively short period of time.

Matta debuted with their first ep in 2009, “The Vice” EP, which achieved considerable praise and support from many big names in out of the world of Dubstep, including Radio 1’s Kissy Sell Out who chose to play all the tracks back to back on his show. From this they went onto remix for the likes of Skunk Anansie as well as continuing to release their own material on labels such as Heavy Artillery, Ad Noiseam & Terminal Dusk.

This led them into 2010 with already quite a heavy release schedule for such a new act. Through the year they went onto remix for the likes of Hecq, Black Lung, Bong-Ra and Afghan Headspin to name a few. They also went onto release their first EP with German uber label, Ad Noiseam, called “The Lost” EP, which was showered in praise throughout Europe for its new and diverse style of Dubstep.

The Summer saw them play a number of times in Europe which culminated by playing the extremely prestigious “Maschinenfest” festival where they pulled a full crowd in the huge setting of the Turbinenhalle, Oberhausen. The festival was also the setting for Matta to release their debut album “Prototype”, an amalgamation of their best tracks so far. As well as being highly praised throughout the online community it had the honour of being named as one of the top 10 electronic albums of the year on many prestigious IDM blogs.

The years end saw Matta not only invading people’s headphones but also their televisions when their music was used on Channel 4’s popular new show “Misfits”. With this not being quite enough their remix of Hecq “Sura” was also used in an online advert for Audi.

So far 2011 has seen the duo release a remix of Noisia’s award winning track “Gutterpump”. Their release schedule is looking extremely full with some exciting prospects and collaborations. Their tour schedule is also filling quickly seeing them travel all over Europe including a set at this years “Summer Darkness” festival in Holland.

The 4 track EP comes with a remix of ‘Apart’ from Loop Stepwalker alongside the original version as the lead track, backed up with 2 more Matta originals in the form of ‘Infatuation’ and ‘Empire’.
‘Apart’ is a deep, rumbling roller with a 2 steppy skip to it, ‘Empire’ is typically ferocious Matta fayre which gets straight down to business with no fuss (or much intro)…. this is shaping up to be a big release.

The release is available everywhere from 31st October, but preview 2 tracks here:

Matta release ‘Feed’ & ‘Deadbeat’ on Subway Recordings on 29th August 2011 and to celebrate the release, they have put up their refix of Alela Diane’s “Clicket Clack’ track.  Alela Diane is not the most obvious choice for a dubstep refix, but then the refix is not just your run of the mill reworking with obligatory heavy bass (although there is plenty of that around) – there’s a nice off-beat drum pattern which really compliments the vocal on the track… its very cool.  And you can download it free, right from their soundcloud page, or directly from this player right here:

The Subway EP can be tried, before its buyed over at their soundcloud page too.  And once again, lazy fingers can just press play right here:

SOULBOT VIDEO FEATURING MATTA’S ‘INQUISITION PT. III’

7. July 2011

This video is really cool!  An amazingly animated video with incredible detail and movement which compliments Matta’s ‘Inquisition Pt. III’ track incredibly well.
The conceit of the video is also food for thought.  Whoever ‘they’ are say that a human body loses 21grams at the moment of death – this is said to be the soul leaving the body.

Imagine the consequences of being able to capture that soul… Andreas Wannersted, who produced this video, seems to think that it would be used for commercial gain.  Personally i think there’s probably military labs in every major power working on this right now for far more nefarious reasons than money! wahhahahahahaaaaa!
