‘Ruckspin’ (aka Dom Howard) grew up with music from an early age. Age 6 he began playing piano and violin. Aged 15 he began using sample-based computer music programs, and started DJing Drum and Bass at gigs and parties around South-London. After moving to Leeds, Dom had residencies at various clubs and events (including Valve sound-system), co-presented 2 weekly radio shows on local radio, and promoted a weekly night with a group of resident musicians including beat-boxer ‘Shlomo’ and producer/DJ ‘Quantum Soul’.   Since graduating from Leeds College of Music, Ruckspin has been predominantly producing Dubstep, and receiving Dubstep bookings at club nights and festivals across the UK and Worldwide, while continuing his residency at the increasingly popular monthly club-night ‘Central Beatz’. Ruckspin recently returned from a week-long tour of Russia, and is booked in for subsequent tours in Australia & New Zealand. He is also working on an album with his live dubstep group ‘Submotion Orchestra’, who are booked at all the main UK festivals this year and have an EP forthcoming on Ranking Records.

Here’s what the people say:

“…so many production tricks it’ll make your head spin…” IDJ
“…the production of Ruckspin is 2nd to none…” Essence of Dub
“…on FIYA!!!…” James Mountain (Ninja Tune)
“…basically one of the best and most underrated producers about…” Thinking (IDJ)
“["Dread" is]… very dark and fresh!” Junior Vasquez

Ruckspin is about to embark on a mammoth 19 date UK tour with his band Submotion Orchestra whose album is out later this year.  Following some final DJ shows in Huddersfield, Leicester and Amersfoort before hitting the road with the band, Ruckspin is also DJing on selected dates on the Submo tour including:  9th March Exeter, 12th March Brighton, 14th March Manchester, 18th March Nottingham and at an as yet undisclosed venue and location for a secret gig on 17th March.

Following the tour, Ruckspin heads off to South Africa as part of an international delegation to rebuild the reputation of England after the shocking performance of the England team in the World Cup, which will keep him away from European shores until mid April.

Ruckspin ended 2010 with the release of his remix of Crystal Fighters track ‘Swallow’ on Zirkulo Records (see below), the year ahead is busy for the multi-talented producer.
His live project, Submotion Orchestra, sets off in March on a tour of the UK’s clubs before the release of their debut album is released on Exceptional Records supported by a summer of festival shows which includes Bestival and Glastonbury.
Not satisfied with only having a solo project and a band, Ruckspin is also part of the Cymatic project – a collaboration with DLR, Quantum Soul and Chris Octane – and in this guise released ‘Electric Church‘ on Box Clever in November 2010 and has a remix of Dub From Atlantis’ track ‘Silly Little Things’ set for release on Ranking Records in Feb 2011.

Ruckspin is a classically trained composer, producer and international DJ with a fearsome reputation as a producer whose aproduction has been described as ‘flawless’ with ’so many production tricks it’ll make your headspin’.
His DJ sets are standout too – resulting in 2 dj mixes for the highly respected Electronic Explorations podcast series, the 2nd of which can be downloaded here.
Ruckspin is busy working on a remix of Gentleman’s Dub Club’s ‘High Grade’ coming soon on Ranking Records as well as working on an album with Jack Sparrow expected to come out on Tectonic Records.  Check out an early offering from this exciting collaboration in the form of ‘Revolutions’ below.
