Effortlessly combining a party rocking blend of house, garage, breakbeat, ghetto flavours and drum ‘n’ bass, HeavyFeet are at the forefront of the bass music phenomenon. As the duo continue to roll their ever-evolving sound out through a string of bass-heavy releases on some of the coolest indie labels around, Party Like Us, Nightshifters and Passenger, as well as leaders in the game, Skint, Trouble & Bass and Bingo, 2010 is looking like their biggest year yet, with remixes dropping for the likes of Zinc, Drop The Lime and Deekline, as well as the birth of the own label. Watch this space, the bass is coming!

HeavyFeet ft Jon Rice: “Raise a Glass”

STMP011 - Release Artwork

As the penultimate release of HeavyFeet’s ‘12 singles over 12 months’ project powers into view, delivering yet another wonderfully diverse musical package from the Mancunian production outfit, what better way for the duo to celebrate than by inviting Jon Rice (of HeavyFeet’s 4th single, ‘Saving Me’) back to the vocal booth.
‘Raise a Glass’ is a contemporary take on the classic Chicago house sound that HeavyFeet have always sought inspiration from, and includes bumping bass, skippy beats, uplifting synth chords and hooky vocals. Taking these elements one step further, and drawing influence from the 2 Bears (Raf Daddy & Joe Goddard from Hot Chip), HeavyFeet open the track up with a simple club beat and then lead into a suitably developed song, letting epic synths sweep into the chorus section alongside Jon’s deeper lyrical side, giving the breakdown a lovely hands-in-the-air moment to what is an otherwise rather vocally sparse, club influenced number.

HeavyFeet ft Mad Rush – “V’s Up” (download original mix free)

STMP010 - Release Artwork

The largest HeavyFeet/Stamp! Beats single yet? We think so…

HeavyFeet return in fine form to their trademark bass heavy production approach, opening 2011 with a huge footmark. Their 10th single of 12,  ‘V’s Up’,  features one of the North’s finest hype men,  Mad Rush,  known to most as Chibuku’s resident MC and The Warehouse Project’s energetic vocal stalwart. Unsurprisingly,  ‘V’s Up’ incorporates Mad Rush’s never ending energy and HeavyFeet were insistent this had to be captured in the studio,  so Mad Rush set about writing one of the most crowd hype vocals you’ll hear anytime soon.

The original mix on an introductory half time skank tip,  complete with a savage dubstep bassline and speaker shredding grime stabs quickly switches to a 4/4 chorus, with Mad Rush emphatically demanding the ravers to ‘get ya v’s up!’ HeavyFeet’s own Club Mix fires up the 4/4 wobbles,  thumping latin percussion, select vocal chops and a repetitive,  growing acid line. One for the fans of their current remix output and the DJ Zinc/Crack House sound.

Man of the moment Rack N Ruin delivers a slamming club version,  flexing dubstep,  breaks and heavy club/house elements courtesy of heavy jungle breaks raw ravey basslines and driving 90’s dance stabs. Marcus Visionary,  co-owner of the prolific Liondub label and most recognised in the UK as one of Shy FX’s Digital Soundboy crew delivers a re-fix of mighty proportion,  original percussive stomper,  ‘Georgetown’ layering Mad Rush’s vocals,  select synth licks and orchestral stabs on top of his energetic Liondub release.

STMP008 - Release Artwork

With HeavyFeet now nearly three quarters of the way through their ‘12 singles over 12 months’ project on Stamp! Beats, the big guns are starting to be rolled out, allowing for maximum impact over the next few months’ releases. Serocee, a name synonymous with quality urban music, be it dancehall, reggae, or hip-hop, has worked with some of the most respected names in the game over the last decade – Basement Jaxx, Toddla T, Roots Manuva, MJ Cole, Zed Bias, South Rakkas Crew – and that’s not to mention his soundsystem days! Parking Meter is a cheeky dancehall-influenced number showcasing some of HeavyFeet’s favourite urban production flavours.
Taking influence from bashment and the current wave of UK urban music, HeavyFeet fire up the heat under their melting pot, combining tough, percussion drenched beats, squelchy bass and grimey string stabs to create a booty shaking party vibe. Serocee rides the beat, dropping hot verse after hot verse, and then switches his flow for one of the most promiscuous choruses we’ve come across in some time, creating an instant tongue-in-cheek Jamaican-style singalong! HeavyFeet’s Club Mix takes on a thumping old skool breaks theme, with epic synth leads and rave pianos across the breakdowns, allowing for two momentous bassline drops to follow. Guaranteed dancefloor carnage indeed! Edu K, arguably now Europe’s favourite Brazilian bass music producer, brings influence from the white washed walls and high ceilings of his new Berlin based abode, jamming together techy drum sounds with percussive world music hits, a driving, monotonous bassline and blasts of white noise, making for a sharp, snappy mainroom club affair with a twist, courtesy of Serocee’s vocals.

Check out the crazy dancing!  I’m pretty sure that doing headspins on concrete is not good for you (definately don’t try that at home) and some of these kids must have gone home with broken ankles, but whatever, cos it looks good!

This video for HeavyFeet’s ‘Here We Go Again’ (out now on Plant Music) was filmed in the lower east side at the aNYthing Jerk dance competition.  Pretty cool huh.
Check out the rest of the EP and show your support at Beatport to buy it now – there’s lots more goodness on this EP.  Try not to injure yourself dancing to this… maybe wear knee pads.

HeavyFeet ft Rod Hotly & Kid Bliss – “Last 2 People” out now on Stamp! Beats

STMP007 - Release Art

Notice something different? Two remixes on the track listing as opposed to one? Every artist who was played this latest single on Stamp! Beats immediately wanted to remix it, so it had to be done… and you’re soon to find out why! Spacey, sexy, vocoded vocals courtesy of The Real Dolls front man Rod Hotly, reveals that he and a lady friend are indeed the last two people in the club. But where will this late night rendezvous lead… Straight into the hands of UK MC Kid Bliss, who drops a hot verse and middle eight without delay. In the minds of HeavyFeet, Kid Bliss is one of the most underrated artists around. He recently caught the attention of several industry players including MistaJam (BBC Radio 1/1Xtra) with his 2009 mixtape ‘Autopilot’ (which features the likes of GFrSH, Bigz and Bubbz), and this latest collaboration shows why the Kid is someone to keep on your radar.
Dropping their most radio friendly single to date, HeavyFeet go in hard with distorted guitars, huge synth stabs and monster drums, creating an energetic, anthemic hip-hop number. Vocals from Rod Hotly and Kid Bliss take the beat to the next level, delivering a sick combination of sung hooks and emceed flows. The Club Dub jumps onto the dancefloor in trademark HeavyFeet style, focusing on boomy, effected drum hits, crazy build ups, minimal vocal use and uplifting 90’s pianos patterns. Man of the moment, DCUP, fresh from his recent UK No.1 single ‘We No Speak Americano’ (with Yolanda Be Cool), goes in on his signature disco house sound, featuring full vocals, funky electronic bass, swollen 80’s synth hits and a drum groove that instantly reminds you of Armand Van Helden and Duck Sauce. Fellow Aussies, Two Fresh, provide one of our favourite club mixes of a Stamp! Beats release yet, with a massive, punked-up jungle sound. One for the ravers AND the skankers – Epic!

HeavyFeet ft Miski… “Are You Dumb?” FREE DOWNLOAD

STMP006 - Release Artwork 500x500

Grimey, edgy and seriously heavy is one way of describing HeavyFeet’s sixth release on Stamp! Beats. Dropping chunks of hip-hop, grime and dubstep into the mix, ‘Are You Dumb?’ reaches for the 140bpm zone and stamps out a fresh, urban footprint from the HeavyFeet stable. After hearing DJ Target playing Miski’s ‘Lady Noisy’ on BBC 1Xtra in early 2010, HeavyFeet began a collaborative relationship with the young London-based MC resulting in ‘Are You Dumb?’, recorded at the state-of-the-art 5.1 surround sound Binary Cell studios in Liverpool. Since recording with HeavyFeet, Miski has signed a management deal, is currently putting the finishing touches to her first mixtape and has collaborated with UK rapper, Page, and wonder-producer, Bless Beats.
With the original featuring full female vocals, both MC’d verses and a catchy sung chorus, a pulsating, deep, growly bass and choppy hip-hop club beats, it makes for a strong start to the single package… without you knowing what’s coming! The Club Dub also enters the 140bpm tempo bracket, however this time with sparse vocal use, a distinctly deep, dubstep-focused bassline, regularly switching into a neat, driving 4/4 section, complete with hooky synths and sinister stabs. Straight off a plane from Jamaica and into his New York studio, dancehall producer Dre Skull brings proceedings to a close with a foot stomping, juke-meets-dubstep remix, tackling roughed up 808 drums, a half time verse and crazy pitch builds in one of the most out there remixes seen on a Stamp! Beats release so far.

With his recent success following remixes and co-production work for Will.I.Am (ft. Usher), Justin Timberlake, Ciara and M.I.A, HeavyFeet and Kovas began a translantic collaborative relationship which saw HeavyFeet complete a remix for Kovas’s ‘Ghetto Beat’ label, and in return Kovas deliver the killer ‘We Came To Party’ vocal to return the favour.
